Cranial Osteopathy for Mums

Enormous physical, chemical and emotional changes take place during Pregnancy, all of which have to be adapted to in a relative short period of time.

YOU represent the future. YOU represent the hopes and aspirations of mankind, and all his attributes and best qualities. Therefore, we believe that it is beholding on each of us to ensure that, to remain true to that potential, YOU have access to those products that will actively promote good health and development and safeguards against poisons, toxins, detrimental chemicals, beliefs and habits.

Gayle Palmer D.O., the osteopath at Living Elements Clinic, is passionate about creating the best environment for Mums and babies from conception all the way through delivery to life itself!

One way of achieving this is through Cranial Osteopathy during this vital stage of life but we also offer a range of products to care for both you and the wonderful new person you now hold...

Osteopathic treatment during and after pregnancy can help with easing some of the physical discomfort of pregnancy, preparing for the demands of labour and then helping the mother to recover from the birth experience whether it has been natural or by Caesarean or other interventions eg Ventouse etc.

As well as helping with adaptations in the early stages; reducing the tension around the diaphragm as the uterus expands can help heartburn and ease breathing. Treatment to the lower ribs and spine allows full use of the available lung capacity and more mobility. Due to the extra hormones during pregnancy the ligaments of the whole body soften due, this allows the bones of the pelvis to separate slightly… Good for the passage of the babies head, not necessarily so good for the mum. The treatment of pubic symphysitis can be very beneficial.

Osteopathic treatment, whether traditional or cranial, makes life easier and reduces the strains.

The position of the baby in the later stages has a huge bearing on the comfort and the possible risk of complications and ease of passage during the delivery itself. Breech babies can even be turned and following the delivery, the pelvic bones, coccyx and sacrum and pelvic floor can be extremely effectively treated to relieve the birthing strains before the ligaments begin to re-tighten. It can also mean the difference between sitting down and not!

Whilst you may be most concerned about how the baby is after delivery, if you, as the Mum are uncomfortable, tense due to your own trauma and recovery, not able, or finding it difficult to breastfeed (if that is your choice) then you will struggle looking after the baby.

So please - DON'T ignore YOU! Your baby depends on you..

...and it will possibly take another pregnancy (!) for your ligaments to be this pliable again! Make sure it is in the right place and you are symmetrical NOW whilst you can easily make these changes. That is just one of the reasons why a post-partum checkup is so important for Mums!
