Have gratitude for your health

Gratitude is like a sunrise

I have said many times before that

“Health and LIFE is NOT an accident”!

BUT, taking it for granted (which we so often do) also does not work on many levels!

Taking things for granted leaves you:

  1. Powerless

  2. Irresponsible

  3. Frustrated

  4. Missing out on the little, free things of life

  5. Irritable

  6. Having a feeling of something missing all the time

  7. Ill and unhealthy

  8. Mentally sad.

Having gratitude for all your life, the good and less great parts enhances ALL of your wellbeing. It is a win-win.

“Gratitude is like a sunrise – it beautifies everything it covers.”

Gayle Palmer

Therefore – why would you not practice this? Everyday!

Give yourself permission to be grateful  for all the experiences that you have.

What could this look like? Here are some ideas…

  • Compliment someone on their appearance and thank them for taking the time to make the worls beautiful!

  • Really look at a flower and take in its magnificence

  • Be grateful for the people who serve you each day – the postman, shop assistant, bus driver

  • Be amazed that you can stand upright and walk at all

  • Wonder at how your brain works and how it can remember (sometimes selectively) so many details in your life

  • Marvel at the miracle of life and birth

  • Be thankful for your life

So why should you even consider this “gratitude” action and habit?

Here are some compelling reasons which will enhance your health further!

A. Good, positive and enriching thoughts improve your immune system.

A better immune system keeps illness at bay – and this can be physical and emotional illness! for example – the power of prayer can reduce your chances of cancer for instance in the same way that eating more healthily can too.

B. Enriching your life by getting all the juice out of any given situation (seeing the positive as a friend calls it very simply) puts you in a great frame of mind.

C. It can prevent physical disease and illness – especially reduces the incidence of heart attacks and inflammation – which causes pain.

D. When you are more grateful, you feel more connected with yourself and with your environment. That’s the opposite of what stress does.

E. You sleep better and wake refreshed.

F. Your perception and interpretation of incidents in life are more positive. You can think of different options more clearly.

“Clinical trials indicate that the practice of gratitude can have dramatic and lasting effects in a person’s life,” said Robert A. Emmons, professor of psychology at UC Davis. “It can lower blood pressure, improve immune function and facilitate more efficient sleep.”

Hopefully this article has given you some ideas. What can YOU be grateful for?

Start practising today – and reap the benefits.
