Tree Dressing Day – safety first
The day has come! Time to get and dress the Christmas Tree!
Everyone is excited. The decorations have been retrieved from the loft or new ones bought or made. The tree has been collected in or on the car, or dusted down… It’s all systems go!
BUT – let safety come first…
ALWAYS use a stable platform for working at height – this includes retrieving the tree and decorations from the loft or other equally awkward storage locations!
Use good lifting practices.
If you body is tired or saying it has had enough – either of the whole thing or a particular task – stop or change it up! Have a glass of water. Return another time.
At all times – especially with awkward or heavy containers:
Bend the knees
Don’t over reach
Keep your spine in a neutral or straight position
Avoid twisting whilst lifting
Ensure the tree is securely anchored, especially if it is outside.
Use stakes, additional ropes attached to the trunk
Relocate to a less windy spot
Allow for animals climbing into the tree – cats are notorious for this!
Ensure it is safe for animals to be around – keep tempting ornaments well away fro reach
Be electrically safe!!!
ASK FOR HELP!
For some this is THE most difficult thing to do – due to shyness, embarrassment, pride or plain stupidity!
If its daunting, too big for you to handle, too heavy or you can’t reach – ask for help!
PS It also makes the process safer, more fun and quicker.
TAKE REGULAR BREAKS DURING THE DECORATING PROCESS.
If you body is tired or saying it has had enough – either of the whole thing or a particular task – stop or change it up! Have a glass of water. Return another time.
If this has helped you – please forward on to other who may have a more cavalier attitude to tree dressing – and then are a martyr to the pain! It makes for peace and harmony!
